Kayla's Diagrid

About Kayla
I like spending time with my family and hope to find some new friends here at Diabuddies.com. I have always been to nervous to go to a diabetic camp on my own, so maybe doing this will help me break the ice a bit.
A Diabetic Story and/or a Low Experience:
My name is Kayla and I was diagnosed 9.5 years ago at age 4.5. I went into DKA and was in a coma for 2 weeks on life support at San Diego Children's Hospital. When I woke to my family and friends from my coma, I found out I had a stroke and was paralysed on my left side. After 26 days in the hospital and 6 years of therapy I am a 99% normal kid. I go to a normal school and have even begun a diabetes club at my junior high school. I am kind of shy but am trying to educate others on the importance of diabetes and its health affects. I just learned that my father passed away this year after years of complications caused by the neglect of his Diabetes Type 1. Last weekend I learned about Diabuddies.com when I participated in the Diabetes Walk for a Cure in San Diego. I am excited to have learned about this program and hope to meet other teens out there like myself. I am sort of going through a rough time with my glucose levels right now and would like people like myself to chat with.
